Where

EuroPython 2013 will be held near the old city centre of Florence, at the Grand Hotel Mediterraneo (in Lungarno del Tempio, 44 - near the beautiful Piazza Santa Croce).

How to reach Florence

As the conference will be held near the old city centre, we advise travelling to the city by rail or air. It is a short walk between most hotels and the conference location.

If you come by train:

Detrain at Stazione Centrale of Santa Maria Novella. From "Santa Maria Novella" railway station, you can walk to the hotel (~25 minutes) or catch the No 14 bus (ticket: €1,20) and get off at the Grand Hotel Mediterraneo stop in Via Arnolfo (behind the hotel). The Grand Hotel Mediterraneo is at about 150 metres.

If you come by airplane:

The Grand Hotel Mediterraneo is at about 10 km from the airport Florence Peretola (FLR) (also called "Amerigo Vespucci Airport"). You can take a shuttle bus from the airport that will bring you to the central railway station (Santa Maria Novella). From there, you can take a bus or walk through the beautiful city center (see above for further instructions). Alternatively, you can get a taxi at the airport to bring you directly to Grand Hotel Mediterraneo (price: about 20-25€).

The alternative airport is Galileo Galilei - Pisa (PSA), located by the coast, 1 kilometre from Pisa Centre and only 80 kilometres from Florence, which has direct access to:

  • Highways (by Bus): If you decide to travel by bus, the coach transfer service managed by Terravision, leaves, every day, from Pisa International Airport to Florence S.M. Novella station. You can buy the ticket at Pisa Airport Information Desk.
  • Railways (by Train): Pisa Airport is Directly Connected to the Italian Railway Network. Direct railway lines connect every day Pisa Airport to Florence.

If you come by car: (not suggested!)

Leave the A1 motorway at the "Firenze Sud" exit. Go straight until the end of the junction that runs over the river Arno, take a left at the traffic light and go straight for about 2 km. The Grand Hotel Mediterraneo is on your right. That said, you have some options for parking:

Mediterraneo Hotel Park
The Grand Hotel Mediterraneo has a private garage which ensures an easy and safe parking for your car. It costs €15 per day and you need to reserve it with the hotel staff.
S.Ambrogio parking

It's an attended parking in Piazza Annigoni, phone number 055.244641, near Beccaria parking. Availability: 370 places. Price is €1.50/hour for the first 2 hours and €3.00/hour from the third. Opened 0:00-24:00.

Beccaria parking

It's an attended parking in Piazza Cesare Beccaria, phone number 055/50.30.22.09, near Grand Hotel Mediterraneo. Availability: 210 places. Flat prices of €1.50/hour for all cars. A ticket for 24h costs €18. Opened 0:00-24:00.

Train station parking (in Santa Maria Novella)
In the city centre, under the station, but the most expensive: you can buy a ticket for no less than 5 days paying €140.
Fortezza Fiera parking

It's just outside the old city centre, approx 10 mins by feet from the station of Santa Maria Novella. A ticket for 24h costs €18.

  • Address for your GPS navigation system: "Piazzale Caduti nei Lager".
  • Suggested motorway exit: Firenze Nord.
  • Once arrived to the parking, proceed by feet to the train station, then reach the PyCon area from there following former information.

As an alternative, here is the complete list of garages in Florence. You can call those garages and find an agreement with them.

Sleeping at Hotel Mediteranneo: special concession

Have a look at our special concession with the conference hotel. You can buy rooms (and even roomshare!) directly from our cart.

Things to remember while booking:

  • The EuroPython conference will span from 09:00 of Monday 1st to 18:00 of Friday 7th; sprints will be on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th. Notice that the partner program begins on the weekend before the event, so you might want to arrange your trip accordingly.
  • We suggest to consider our hotel concession as first choice because we feel it's the best value for the money; as an alternative, we will draw up a list of hotels and B&B near the conference's venue, and we will keep it updated.
  • Our concession with Hotel Mediterraneo includes free wi-fi service in the room (and our own free conference wi-fi will be available in the venue also during the night). If you are going to sleep elsewhere, remember that we sell tethering-enabled SIMs for smartphones; if wi-fi cost in the hotel is too high, consider getting a SIM and using it for Internet access even in the hotel room. Wi-fi connections in hotels tend to be even worse than the service you get through the mobile networks.
